Kick Out Drugs: Arusha Youth Bonanza
Introduction
THSS, in collaboration with DCEA Northern Zone, organized a comprehensive awareness event to educate young people on the dangers of drug abuse and how to make healthy choices. The event, known as “August Bonanza Ilboru Arusha City,” took place in Arusha and brought together youth from various neighborhoods to participate in activities that combined sports and education.
The bonanza featured a series of competitive football games, where teams from different communities and schools came together to showcase their talents. The football matches were not just about winning but also about promoting teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyles among the youth. The games were held in a friendly atmosphere, encouraging positive interactions and fostering unity among participants.
Beyond the football games, the event included educational sessions led by experts from DCEA and health professionals. These sessions focused on the harmful effects of drug abuse on physical health, mental well-being, and social life. Youth were given practical advice on how to resist peer pressure and make better life choices. Personal testimonies from former drug users who successfully overcame addiction were also shared, providing inspiration and real-life examples of resilience and recovery.
Furthermore, the bonanza featured informative booths where participants could engage in interactive learning about the risks associated with drug abuse and the importance of mental health care. These booths provided pamphlets, posters, and demonstrations that highlighted preventive measures and support systems available to those struggling with addiction.

The event also had a community engagement component, where local leaders, parents, and educators were invited to take part in discussions about creating a safer environment for young people. By involving the entire community, THSS and DCEA aimed to build a network of support that encourages youths to pursue education, sports, and other positive activities rather than falling into the trap of substance abuse.
Overall, the “August Bonanza Ilboru Arusha City” was more than just a sports event; it was a platform for learning, community building, and empowerment. It underscored the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders—government agencies, non-profits, community leaders, and families—in tackling the issue of drug abuse among young people in Arusha and beyond.
